These Golfers Are No Longer "Hookers" And They Will Tell You How They Did It

Don, Kentucky
Handicap: 10-20; age: 50 or older

I don't release my wrist until after contact. AND I MAKE SURE NOT TO LAY MY CLUB OFF IN THE BACKSWING.

Rick, Maryland
Handicap: 10-20; age: 19-49

I tried everything to cure my hook such as grip changes, shorter swings, slower tempo. Nothing seemed to really work. What seems to really work now is the effort to utilize coil in my backswing. That is, when you take the club back, make sure you turn your torso too. Don't just turn your left shoulder under your chin. You can feel a lot of torque, which helps you to hit the ball straight and far.

Rick, Maryland
Handicap: 10-20; age: 19-49

To prevent hooking, I try to minimize my head movement and keep my head behind the ball. It's when my head gets ahead of the ball at impact that I either badly block (push) the ball or flip the hands and hook it. So stop swaying and hit straighter shots. e to make a steep approach to the ball on your downswing.

Andy, Massachusetts
Handicap: 10 or below; age: 19-49

Be sure to make a steep approach to the ball on your downswing. When I turn the ball over too much, it's usually because I've allowed myself to come around the ball with too flat a downswing. GET STEEP! HIT DOWN!

Tony, Florida
Handicap: 10 or below; age: 19-49

I use a #3 iron off the tee and I can hit it far and straight consistently. All you do is on the takeaway, you do it very slow and smooth with your arms hanging out from your chest. Don't take club away on an inside path, take on an outside path so that you can follow throuhg and end with the club over your neck.

Daniel, The Woodlands, TX
Handicap: scratch golfer

I love your title there.. I am not a "hooker". But to get rid of hooking is not tough. Hooking is essentially caused by a closed club face at impact. So to eliminate your hook, first find out why your club face is closed at impact. It could be that you do not have a proper grip...that was actually my problem a long time ago.

Arthur, Boston
Handicap: 10 or below

I always make sure that my hips shift and rotate first so that I do not have to flip my arms or hands. I am not sure whether this makeS sense to anyone else.
